I use photography as a way to approach the moment when visible reality begins to shift.
My work begins with an encounter with objects and places that exist before the camera. Within their light, distance, arrangement, and surrounding space, a subtle unease and presence begin to appear. There are moments when ordinary subjects lose their fixed meanings and take on another kind of presence.
My interest lies in the quiet tension that arises between object and object, object and space, and between the work and the viewer. A subject is shaped by distance, empty space, light, shadow, and placement, and begins to appear as something other than itself. Within this process, there is a tremor of perception that comes before language.
A familiar space becomes uncertain. The functional outline of an object begins to fade. Distances, intervals, and boundaries begin to waver. I look at the faint pressure that emerges within these relationships.
For me, photography is a way of making the visible world slightly unstable, allowing another presence to emerge between the subject and the space around it. Familiar things begin to appear before us beyond meaning, as presences.
What I seek is a quiet pull toward the unknowable.
私は写真を、目に見える現実が少しずつ揺らぎ始める瞬間へ近づくための方法として使っています。
私の制作は、カメラの前に存在する物や場所との出会いから始まります。そこにある光、距離、配置、空間の中に、言葉にしにくい違和感や気配が現れます。ありふれた対象が、固定された意味を失い、別の存在感を帯び始める瞬間があります。
私の関心は、物と物、物と空間、そして見る者とのあいだに生まれる静かな緊張にあります。対象は、周囲との距離、余白、光、影、配置によって、別のものとして立ち上がります。そこには、言葉になる前の知覚の揺れがあります。
見慣れているはずなのにどこか不確かな空間。機能の輪郭が弱まり始めた対象。物と物のあいだに生まれる距離や間隔、境界の揺らぎ。私は、そうした関係の中に生まれる、かすかな圧力を見ています。
私にとって写真は、見えている世界を少し不安定にし、対象と空間のあいだに別の気配が立ち上がるための方法です。見慣れたものが意味を越えて、存在としてこちらに現れる瞬間があります。
私が求めているのは、完全には知ることのできないものへ向かう静かな引力です。
